It goes without saying that installing new carpet in your home is a huge investment and with that, an important responsibility to maintain.

Choosing carpet for your home not only means that you have made your home more beautiful and comfortable, you have also added to the value of your property.

Therefore, with this in mind, it is important to practise proper maintenance and care to ensure that it continues to look stunning for years to come.

At Frank’s, we’ve put together a care guide to help you maintain your carpet to the highest standards.

How to maintain carpet

With the right tools, maintenance is easy. Generally, all you need to do to keep your carpet looking beautiful is to vacuum regularly, stock a good stain remover in the cupboard and always have a pair of scissors to hand.

Vacuum carpet weekly

If you can, it’s best to try and vacuum at least once a week to prevent dirt and debris becoming embedded in the fibres. If your carpeted area sees regular foot traffic, it may be necessary to vacuum more frequently.

The type of vacuum you use and how you use it also has a big impact on carpet care. For example, you’ll want to use the highest setting on the head of your vacuum to avoid damaging fibre ends.

Fix spills straight away

The longer you allow a stain to sit, the harder it will be to remove. Try to remove as much of the spill as possible by blotting, then add a small amount of water and blot again with a towel.

Only use a stain remover if you feel it’s completely necessary, ensuring it’s one that’s approved for use with your type of carpet.

Clip carpet snags

If you notice snags in your flooring, don’t pull them! Instead, use a pair of sharp scissors to clip the snag evenly in line with the rest of the fibres.

Remove dents caused by furniture

Dents that have been caused as a result of pressure from heavy furniture can be rubbed out using a small coin across them. This will encourage the fibres to stand back up.
